Artes e ofícios do Príncipe / Príncipe Arts and Crafts

Apoiar as artes e ofícios que sobreviveram ao tempo, e resgatar algumas do esquecimento é uma das missões da Fundação Essentia Príncipe. O trabalho de pesquisa já começou e a boa notícia é que aos poucos vão aparecendo os artistas e artesãos que fazem da matéria local autênticas obras de arte popular.

Supporting the regional arts and crafts that have survived, and to rescue some others from being forgotten is one of the Essentia Príncipe Foundation main missions. The research work has already started and the good news are that the artists and craftsmen, whom make the local craft work authentic, are slowly appearing.

 

 

 

Turismo como oportunidade / Tourism as an opportunity

Realizou-se ontem a última das cinco conferências da iniciativa “Novo Ciclo de Desenvolvimento para São Tomé e Príncipe” sob tema “O Papel do Turismo no Novo Ciclo Económico em São Tomé e Príncipe”. É uma iniciativa promovida pelo Governo da Região Autónoma do Príncipe com o objetivo de refletir sobre o potencial contributo da atividade turística para o desenvolvimento nacional e regional. A Fundação Essentia Príncipe esteve presente e registou o entusiasmo demonstrado em relação ao futuro.

 

 

Yesterday  the last conference was held,  of a total of five, for the  "New Development Cycle for São Tome e Príncipe" programme, under the theme "The Role of Tourism in the New Economic Cycle in Sao Tome e Principe".   These conferences were promoted by the Regional Government of Príncipe   to reflect on the potential contribution of tourism to the national and regional development. The Essentia Príncipe Foundation was present and welcomed the enthusiasm about the future.

O projeto Inventar(iar) As Roças de São Tomé e Príncipe / The project Inventar(iar) As Roças de São Tomé e Príncipe

Para dar continuidade ao trabalho já iniciado, chegaram hoje à ilha do Príncipe os autores do projecto Inventar(iar) As Roças de São Tomé e Príncipe, Rodrigo Rebelo de Andrade e Duarte Pape. Desta vez  equipa fez-se acompanhar pelo fotografo oficial do projecto Francisco Nogueira. A Fundação Essentia Príncipe apoia, promove e encoraja esta iniciativa.

To carry on the work already started, the authors of the project  Inventar(iar) As Roças de São Tomé e Príncipe, Rodrigo Rebelo de Andrade and Duarte Pape landed today in Principe.This time, the team was accompanied by the project's official photographer Francisco Nogueira. The Essentia Principe Foundation supports, promotes and encourages this initiative.

Limpeza de trilhos na Ilha do Príncipe / Cleaning trails on the island of Principe

Hoje a organização BBIR, em parceria com o Parque Natural do Obô, realizou a limpeza do trilho entre a Roça de Porto Real e Santa Joaquina. Nesta acção de voluntariado participaram algumas das instituições da ilha, como os escuteiros e o exército, e a Fundação Essentia Príncipe não quis deixar de estar presente. Não foi um trabalho fácil, mas os resultados e o convívio foram gratificantes.

Today the BBIR organization, in partnership with the Natural Park Obô, promoted the cleaning of the natural trail between Roça Porto Real and Santa Joaquina. The local scouts group and the army have participated in this volunteer action, and of course the Essentia Principe Foundation could not miss it. It wasn’t an easy task, but the results, the cooperation and the mingling were very gratifying.

Equipa da cultura reúne com professores / The Culture team meets with the local teachers

A equipa da área Cultura da Fundação Essentia Príncipe reuniu hoje pela primeira vez com os professores das disciplinas de expressão musical, educação visual e tecnológica, e educação física. No encontro, todos os professores mostraram-se disponíveis para se envolverem nas atividades programadas para as áreas de expressão dramática e de desporto.

The Essentia Principe Foundation Culture team met today, for the first time, with the musical expression, visual arts and sports local teachers. They all were available to engage with the planned activities, namely the ones related to drama play and sport classes.

O início de uma grande viagem | The beginning of a long journey

Hoje, na Praia Macaco, 155 jovens tartarugas encontraram o seu caminho para o mar. Apenas 2% chegarão à idade adulta. Por isso é tão importante proteger esta espécie da caça.

Today, at Praia Macaco, 155 young turtles found their way to the sea. Only 2% will reach adult age. That's why it's so important to protect them from turtle hunters.

Férias da Páscoa chegam ao fim | The Easter break is over

Os alunos do Príncipe cumpriram a tradição e o final das férias da Páscoa foi assinalado com um espetáculo no Centro Cultural. Além da passagem de modelos pelos mais novos, houve muita música e dança. Entre os vários estilos de dança, esteve a Dêxa, a típica dança das mulheres do Príncipe, provando o interesse dos mais novos pelas tradições.  A dupla Príncipes, composta por Totony e Kevin, mostraram como as tradições locais são inspiração para criarem esquemas de dança mais atuais.

Príncipe students have fulfilled the tradition and the end of the Easter break was marked by a show at the Cultural Center. In addition to the young models fashion show, the night was full of music and dancing. Among the various styles of dance, we fell for the Dêxa, the typical dance of local women, performed by youngsters. Local duo Totony and Kevin - "Príncipes" - showed how local traditions can be an inspiration for modern dance routines.
